Welcome

Nick Gormack and his team warmly welcome you to our care. If you cannot find the answer to your questions in the section below or in the planning for surgery section, please contact the clinic for assistance.

Your First Appointment

Do I need a referral?

Yes, a referral is required. This can be a letter or electronic referral from your GP, physiotherapist or other medical professional. Without a referral, ACC or your insurance company may not cover your medical expenses.

What do I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring any relevant documentation about your injury or condition, including any treatment you have already had and details of any previous surgery. Please provide details of any x-rays or scans you have had, and where these were performed (they can be accessed online). If you are being seen about an injury covered by ACC, make sure to have your ACC claim details available.

What happens at the first appointment?

Mr Gormack will spend time speaking to you about your condition. He will examine the relevant joint and review your medical imaging. If further information is required he will arrange referrals for the relevant tests. You will have the opportunity to discuss both the surgical and non-surgical options available to you.

Is there a charge for the appointment?

If your injury is covered by ACC and your referral includes an approved ACC claim number then there will be no charge for your appointment. If you have Southern Cross insurance we will claim payment directly from Southern Cross. If you have any other private medical insurance, you may be asked to pay for the appointment but will be given a receipt to allow you to make a claim from your insurer. For all other situations you will be asked to make payment at the time of your consultation.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

Yes. Please feel free to bring a family member, partner or friend with you to your consultation. If English is not your first language it would be helpful to have someone with you who speaks fluent English. With advanced notice, an interpreter can be arranged (please note that an additional cost will apply).

What should I wear to my appointment?

Mr Gormack may need to examine the affected joint. If you have a hip or knee condition, loose fitting trousers which are easy to roll up, or shorts or a skirt are best. If you have a shoulder condition, a sleeveless garment or loose t-shirt is ideal.

Where can I park?

  • Ascot Office Park (Mr Gormack’s main clinic): Turn into Elleslie Racecourse Drive from Greenlane East, turn right at the first roundabout. Go straight through the second roundabout into Ascot Office Park. Turn left and follow the ramp down to the underground carpark. Park in any of the spaces marked Orthopaedic in the bottom right hand corner. Take the elevator to level two, follow the signs to reception.

  • Ormiston Specialist Centre: The Ormiston Specialist Centre is located on the ground floor of Ormiston Hospital. There are dedicated patient parking spaces directly outside the clinic front door. If these are full, there are is additional parking in the underground carpark accessed at the far corner of the building. There is elevator access back up to the main level.
