Background

Mr Nick Gormack is a New Zealand trained Orthopaedic Surgeon. He attended the University of Auckland Medical School, then completed his orthopaedic training in 2014. He is a member of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Ortho).

Nick was appointed as an Orthopaedic Consultant at Middlemore Hospital in 2017. He has a special interest in the management of sports injuries and arthritis-related conditions of the hip and knee. He performs arthroscopic surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder, along with joint replacement and revision surgery of the hip and knee.

When not working, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife and three young children. His hobbies include mountain biking, running, soccer, snowboarding and cooking.

Nick is actively involved in junior doctor and medical student training and education. He is passionate about getting the best outcome for all his patients via effective communication, surgery and rehabilitation.

Fellowship Training

Nick completed two years of Fellowship training across three locations. In Perth (Australia), he worked at the Perth Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Clinic specialising in reconstruction of sports injuries of the knee, shoulder and hip. At the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, he specialised in arthroscopic hip and young adult hip preservation surgery, along with complex hip and knee replacement and revision. Nick completed the Bristol Advanced Hip Fellowship at Southmead Hospital Bristol (UK) focusing on hip replacement and revision surgery, and arthroscopic surgery.

  • Awarded the Gordon Gordon Taylor Prize for top candidate in the Australasian FRACS examination (2007)
